A Day At The Beach

............NOT...............

No, It was not a day at the beach. We live in the Midwest and have never traveled very much outside our city limits.
It All Started When...
K-mart had these "easy set up pools" on sale.
Grandma thought it would be a good idea to get one for the kids
and sprang for the cost, I thought ok, I will buy the sand. (no biggie right?)
I thought 8 bags was enough, Then after opening and spreading the bags I quickly learned it was not. Christopher had a 25 dollar gift card from Wally World and sprang for more sand. another 8 bags was 25.59.
In the morning we spread the sand, it was not enough.
Ran to Wally World again. Like a drug addict I stood at the register buying more sand. I only had so much money.
I initially bought 10 bags..my card was denied.
I told the lady to ring me up for 8 bags. My card went through.
I thought, we need more sand.
I told her to ring me up for one more bag.
I dug up the change for 2.89 plus sales tax
I pushed my luck. I said run me for one more bag and I will use my card, it went through.
Perfect..now with all of this laid we have had a total of 36 bags of sand.
I started to set up the pool, I blew up the ring, formed the circle and put the hose in.
GROUND IS NOT LEVEL...
Really?
Yes..Really.
The slightest incline will throw it all off.
I prayed. My face was cupped in my hands as I asked what I should do. Looked in the yellow pages and found the closest topsoil distributor.
Called The sand man. I asked how much is sand. Well, a ton of sand is only 15 dollars. I was like holy crow, that is great then he said Delivery was 75..
******Sigh*******
Not having a truck I had to have it delivered. Not having money..had to Ask Grandma to borrow some.
The man to deliver the sand was promptly there with in the hour.
He backed in our drive and dumped the sand.
Ok, Now, when you think a TON you think ALOT?
RIGHT?
WELL, let me tell you that a TON OF SAND is nothing. I think he saw the bewilderment on my face. It was about 2 feet high at the highest point and and maybe 3 feet long
Being a gentleman he offered to bring more, but deliver it in his own truck.
Sure, sounded great right? I mean he did seem sincere.
I did not think he would actually follow through, so in the mean time me and the kiddos spread 1 ton of sand.
Put the tarps over the sand and put the pool in place.
We proceeded to fill the pool.
It was still not level..but it was better, so it did not bother me.
THEN LOW AND BEHOLD A GENTLEMAN PULLED IN MY DRIVE WAY WITH ANOTHER TON AND THEN SOME OF SAND.
My jaw dropped.
I was like, I knew you said you would come by..but I thought you were just being nice and saying that. I did not think you would actually come by.
We drained the pool (only a couple of gallons was in there..) moved the tarps..he backed his truck in and started to SHOVEL the sand out of his truck (almost 2 tons of it).
I offered the gentleman soda, tea, coffee, water..Pie..anything..He said he was fine.
I tried to pay him the money for the sand, he would not take it.
He proceeded to say he might not have enough to help people out monetarily..but said you can give more then money. (meaning your time)
He gave his time, He gave his sand...
He conveyed he was 1 of 4 kids when growing up and if someone would have brought sand (and a pool) to his family he would have been so grateful.
He simply just said "pay it forward."

Happy 85th Grandma

Here is a interview I did of my Grandma. I took this nearly 6 months ago. in the beginning it is choppy..and gets more interesting about 3 minutes into it. It is nearly a 10 minute video. I quickly learned I am not Steven Spielberg with my editing..lol
Towards the end you will see my scrappy kids..lol it was late and just about bedtime.

Happy 85th BIRTHDAY Grandma..I love you. Thank you for raising me and being such a big part of my life. It is an honor to know you, you are so strong!

xoxo

True Stories....

True Stories, is not ONLY one of my favorite movies, but I just love the title, I mean things so out insane that you may question the actual event of it really happening....
My most favorite TRUE STORY IS WHEN....
Christopher was just born, My mom wanted to take me and my new fam out for a dinner. She decided that hooters would be a nice destination.
The waitress was was less then nice.
My mom being well, My mom decided best to complain about the sub par service,
when the manager came to the table my Mom gave the gentleman an earful of gripes concerning the young lady waiting on us.
her very last gripe was..
BY THE WAY
(as she points to our server) THEM ARNT' HOOTERS.
(PROCEEDS TO "2" THUMB IT TO HER OWN MAMMARY GLANDS..as if to point to her own breast)
THESE ARE HOOTERS....
**SIGH**

Ps.
I DID NOT SAY I WAS PROUD, I JUST SAID IT WAS TRUE

UNCLE SAM PUPPET MASTER~ Who Pulls the Strings?

I know, I know, I am a very BAD blogger!

I have been working on much appreciated orders and sewing up a storm.

now when I say I have not worked this hard in years it seems so true. I forgot how much work and time it takes to making lots of dollies

Speaking of work, I have finished my Uncle Sam PUPPET MASTER. I have been working on him for over a month, and what a sigh of relief to be able to step back and see him finished.

It is BIG Primitive folk art piece WITH TONS AND TONS OF STITCHEN!

I originally made something like this nearly 3 years ago, when the elections were going on I wanted to make him again, but just never found the time, so here he is now.

I look forward to hearing what'cha think...he will be on EBAY tonight (6/12/09)

Delayed Mothers Day Apprecition..

Well, it is like me to either OVER REACT or have a HUGE delay in reaction to anything.. ( I am still trying to find that happy medium)

4 Stitches in 4 Hours..

No, this is not how slow I work,
even though it may seem like it.

4 hours is how long we had to wait in the ER for Gabby to Get 4 stitches to her chin.
On Monday Gabby Got hit with a wiffle ball bat. The funny thing is when the DR did come in to patch Gabby up, he said there was another wiffle ball bat injury. lol

I think this poor girl is going to be scared of gym, this is not the first she has had an injury from gym. a few years back she knocked a tooth loose.

When the school nurse called on Monday I really could not understand her very well because she was talking so fast, then at first she said we have Kristen in the nurses office. I was thinking, who is Kristen? Why are you calling me? (it took a few micro seconds for the wheels to turn in my head..)
OH MY then it dawned on me, THAT IS GABBY FIRST NAME WHICH SHE NEVER GOES BY!! Acutally her first name is KIRSTEN, BUT EVERYONE SAYS KRISTEN (NOTICE THE PLACEMENT OF THE I AND R)Hubs and I had a big argument when Kirsten AKA GABBY was born what she was going to be LEGALLY NAMED. It steemed from the fact that Christopher's first name was supposed to be SEBASTIAN. (HUBS dad's name) But instead of Sebastian Christopher, We named him Christopher Sebastian.
Before I could be released I had to name my daughter. Hubby was not going to budge.
I said fine. It will say Kirsten on Her birth certificate, but she looks like a Gabriella and that is what I am going to call her.

Poor thing, when she started Kindergarten and the teacher was doing call role for the first time and called Kirsten SHE DID NOT KNOW THAT WAS HER!! THIS is NO JOKE!!

Now everyone calls Her Gabby, but now she will also answer to Kirsten and Kristen
lol

Taking Time to Smell the flowers

Greetings Folk..
Well, Long time no blog.
Actually, I have blogged a few times and pulled them. Just thought they were to CraZy.
lol
Anywho.
So, What Have I Been up to?
Taking Time To Smell The Flowers!
About 2 weeks ago the Lilac was in full bloom, I was gifted with some gorgeous roses, there was Hyacinth, then the most beautiful Pink delicate flowers on a bush (don't know the name). I put them about in my home. The most favorite place being the mantle in my living room. I placed them in mis-matched menagerie of little glass vessels, some being antique. Perhaps a salve, flavoring agent even mustard or baby food/bottle. ( Mis-matched glass odds and ends to hold even the smallest of delicate petite flowers has always pulled at my heart strings. one of my favorite things)

Then Last week there was one fine day. I knew it would be the finest that week, as the forecast predicted ran for the next 3 days in a row. My urges for smoking came on strong. I ran up to the store and bought 2 chickens, 2 slab of ribs and some good ole Texan sausage. No Fine day of smoking would have been complete with out the Hickory.

Nothing makes me Happier then the brown crispy skin of the chicken. As the Legs starts to swell, and the kankles get bigger, when pierced juice will come flowing forth. Smoke will rise. Then the beautiful smoke ring that is only found in smoke meats will appear.
(Oh My, My mouth is watering ...)

I have managed to creates something as well. I don't want to say something different, but rather something new.

Last but not least, there is naked wabbit I have had sitten around since St. Patty's day **sigh**

I have curled up with a couple of good books as well..cleaned the house...
This is what I have been doing..

Potty Humor

The past few morning to get to the bathroom has been tough, we are a family of 6 and only have one bathroom.

No kidding, you have to stand in line at our house to use the bathroom next, more so in the mornings.

This morning as Gabby and Sophia were standing in line and arguing who was going to go next, they had a great idea, flip a coin.
As Gabby ran to get the coin to flip, Sophia headed toward the toilet and started to do her business. In the mean time I am laughing so hard thinking I am going to wet my pants, that I need to get to the toilet.
Gabby being very upset that Sophia "cheated" (I thought it was genius myself) opened the door for all to see Sophia doing her daily Constitution... (there is a straight view of the bathroom from the kitchen and the curtains were opened....)

**sigh**Just another morning in the Gianino Household

**in the meantime I am thinking we need a Porta-Potty..or at least a closet with a coffee can..lol**

An Irish HARE Blessing!

Greetings! Well, it seems we are still trying to shake what ever bug came our way. I finally broke down and went to the DR. So You know I was feeling horrible...I try not to go to the DR unless I have to.

Yesterday the temps topped out nearly at 86, It is a fluke I am sure, but a sign that spring will be here soon!! the daffodils are peaking through the ground and I am sure by the end of the month they will be in full bloom.

This year has been a slow go on dollies so far it seems. But I did manage to get dollie done this past week.

I am looking fowarding to making more of these critters! I hope you and yours are doing well.
Warmest
Heidi

They Call It Puppy Love

Greetings..Well folks, love is in the air..and nothing like falling in love, WITH A PUPPY THAT IS! A 4 legged companion friend. Thus my inspiration for my latest Creation. Constance And ginger.

Constance and Ginger Were actually inspired from an antique image I found years ago.

Then, the name came about when I found out Hubby's mom had a pet Doxie. The Doxie's name was Ginger and Hubby's Mom Name was Constance. I think the name is very fitting to for the doll itself .
Constance and Ginger were made exclusively for Harts.

Conversation With a Pre-Teen

Christopher: Mom, can I have a cell phone?

Mom (me): Why do you need a cell phone?

Christopher: "cause everyone else has one

Mom (me): How Many is "everyone"?

Christopher: Like, 20

Mom (me): that is not everyone

Christopher: c'mon

Mom (me): Well, i am not buying it, if you want it you need to do summer school to get your 100 dollars (our district has a summer camp for kids and they can earn up to a hundread dollars)

Christopher: You promised me I did not have to go to summer school.

Mom (me): you don't..but if you want a cell phone you have to buy it yourself

Christopher: Well, Why do you have one?

Mom (me): In case I go out and have car problems, or if I am not home and you are at school and they can get a hold of me.

Christopher: When you were a kid how old where you when you got a cell phone?

Mom (me): FIRST OFF, THEY DID NOT HAVE CELL PHONES WHEN I WAS A KID..secondly I just got one 2 years ago, Besides you can't use your phone at school, they will take it away. who are you going to call?

Christopher: well, when I get home I can use it.

Mom (me): Christopher, it will cost you a dollar just to use it, and if they don't have an AT&T cell phone it will cost you a 1$ for every 10 minutes, just use the home phone to call your friends.

Christopher: Uh, well, what if you forgot your cell phone and you had car problems ..and uh, and I was with you, you could use mine...

Mom (me): Christopher..if you want a cell phone YOU BUY IT

Christopher: BUT MOM..UH
